*Update* – I’ve had this mug now officially 2 years. It was starting to lose some battery life and I had a few issues with it. I contacted Nextmug to get some advice and assistance and after answering a few questions they are sending me a replacement mug. Their customer service is stellar. Their product is fantastic, but if anything goes wrong, it seems they will do whatever they can to make it right. Best purchase I’ve ever made -and I would make it again. This mug keeps my coffee warm without any complicated fuss. Never understood why I need an app to program my coffee mug or why I need to set the temperature to an exact value. This one has 3 settings: Warm, Hot, Piping. The latter to be taken seriously. One simple button to step between those settings and off. Battery lasts a couple hours which is all I need to survive through half-day meetings. The mug cleans easily and is stylish enough to not call attention. The only issue I have encountered is that if the mug is on to a particular setting and you add hot fluids to it, the controller gets confused. Just remember to turn it off before filling. Otherwise, very easy and intuitive to use.

This is a nice addition to any coffee lovers collection. See, I’ve got my favorite travel mug for when I need to run out the door to work, but on days I’m off and at home, the thing is a little unwieldy. However, I don’t like using a regular mug when at home because I tend to drink my coffee over the course of an hour or more. So, enter the self heating coffee mug. Battery and heating element are affixed to the bottom, and it recharges by simply placing it on its coaster. It has 3 different heat settings, and I’ve already discovered their secret. Low is for just keeping something a few degrees above body temperature (haven’t found a use for that setting yet), medium is perfect for if you’re using the lid with the cup, and high is what I use when I don’t have the lid on. Both the final two settings end up bringing the coffee to “about” the same temperature when it’s full (be careful though, high heat without a lid will get that coffee REALLY hot when you’re down to about 1/3 of a cup, so maybe switch it to medium then)
Concept is pretty simple, but what really blew me away was the build quality of this thing. Incredibly solidly made. Additionally, something I didn’t know I NEEDED was a softer, rubberish bottom to a coffee mug/cup. See, besides my travel mug being unwieldy like I said, it has a stainless bottom, so I’m always worried about scratching up my end table when I set it down (and I’m a guy, so I can’t be bothered to keep track of coasters). Fortunately, this thing has a nice soft bottom section. Now, I imagine this is to insulate the heating element and battery so the bottom of the cup doesn’t get hot, but it has the added benefit of being able to set it down normally and not worry about scratching up my tables. Yes, this last thing is a “me” thing, but someone might find that noteworthy. Lol
My only wish is that it was 16oz instead of 12oz, but I should have thought about that more when I ordered it.

I wasn’t sure about this cup, as I’ve had some of these types of products in the past that seemed to be glorified candle warmer plates, but I am REALLY happy with this cup. I’m the type that will leave my cup and come back 5 minutes later, and it’s already lukewarm. After enough time, this becomes very frustrating, as I have to put it in the microwave to reheat it.
This comes with three different settings warm, hot, and piping hot. When I am using it I usually have it on the first setting which is warm. I have used all three settings and I found that the warm setting does a perfect job. I usually have my first cup when I get to work at 9:00 a.m. and a second cup usually takes me to about 1:00 p.m. Thanks to this heated mug, I actually get to enjoy my coffee during my workday, instead of wondering if I have to hold off until I can reheat it.
The lid needs some improvement, as it will leak out the top if I’m not paying attention. The price was decent at the time I received this ($40), but it appears it’s gone through the roof, as the current price of $60 is just ridiculous. I’d like to get one of these for home, so I can leave this at work, but at that price, it’s going to be something I hold off buying. It’s very nice, but not at that higher price. That said, I’ve hinted around, as this would be a great gift to give someone that loves coffee, and wants their coffee at the perfect temperature.

I’d wanted a self-heating mug for a long time, but the “name” manufacturer didn’t offer a larger size until very recently. I purchased the NextMug Plus in 18 oz and have been really happy with it. The battery lasts a long time (though I have the charging base at my desk, so longevity is never a problem), and it’s well sized to give me a large cup of tea or coffee to nurse for a while while staying piping hot. I set mine to the middle level of heat (out of three options), and I find that as hot as I want it. The third level is almost scalding to me. While it is hand-wash only, it is easy to clean, having a wide mouth and good handle to hold on to while soapy. I use a fat bottle brush in it, and it works fine. It also has a temperature gauge on the side to show you not only the setting you’ve set, but also the relative temperature of the contents. It won’t fit into a car cup holder, so travelability is limited, but the lid is splash resistant (not splash proof). I like the slate blue color I purchased; it’s a good looking unit all the way around, and it feels solidly built. Overall, I’m very impressed.

So far I give this a 5-star review, however, time will determine whether the coating holds up better than Ember. I like the larger 18 oz size of this mug, and the feel of the coating. I defected from Ember mugs as their coatings do not hold up over time. Considering the cost of these mugs, I want it to last more than a year and not worry about the coating material seeping into my coffee or tea–not to mention it just looks gross.
What I like better than Ember:
1) Nextmug is a manual operation with simple on-off and temp buttons on the base of the mug. It can be set to one of three temperatures (At first I was setting it to the highest temp, but found that the second one is better for me for an easily drinkable temperature.)
2) I also like being able to turn it off when I finish the cup to prevent the congealing of remnants on the bottom of the cup like happens often with the Ember mug (yuck), and that it doesn’t drain bandwidth from my wireless network.
3) Also I found that Ember mugs would not heat the liquid back up if it had cooled down (this happens if you have the mug off the charging coaster for too long or leave it sitting for too long). The Nextmug also has an auto shut-off, but it will heat the drink back up if you reset the temperature.
4) I like that they include the lid with your purchase. This helps keep the drink hot longer, which preserves battery life.
Tips:
1) I don’t use a metal spoon and keep a plastic spoon (you know, one of those heavier duty ones you get from the froyo stores?) by the coffee pot to stir sweetener or creamer with these mugs, just to prevent unnecessary scratching (as I did with Ember), and only hand wash as per instructions from the manufacturer.
2) I have also purchased two additional charging coasters so I can have one by my living room chair and by my desk where I spend the most time, and one in the kitchen for overnight charging.
All I can say is if the coating material doesn’t degrade like the Ember mugs have (I’ve seen this happen on the three different Ember mugs we’ve owned as well as several my daughter and husband have purchased), it will hands down be my preference and recommended self-heating mug option. I will update my review if I see the coating begin to degrade, but I purchased this in Nov. 2024 and so far so good.

I wasn’t sure about the appearance of this warmer until I received it. It does have a high-end, quality look and feel. Combined with the nice hand made mug – with attached tag, this is a great gift. Although pricy, I ended up purchasing a second one for our home. Not just a coffee mug warmer, good for any hot beverage at a temperature of your choosing. Some of my feature favorites:
Temperature Maintenance – Works perfectly, no issues. Very simple to adjust. There is an auto shut-off timer feature as well.
Quality design – The unit takes up little space and works well on a desk, kitchen counter, bath suite, etc. Nice packaging – adding to it’s high perceived value if a gift.
Great value – For something that you use every day, the cost is reasonable in today’s economy. High tech look & simple to use.
Works with other ceramic mugs – The quality hand made mug set included is really nice, but other ceramic mugs work well too.

Here I thought I was drinking hot coffee. I made a couple of shots of espresso in my primo coffee maker, added boiling water, and brought it upstairs. I immediately put the Ikago coffee cup onto the Ikago Mug warmer, turned it on, and saw it was only 113°! Who knew? So I timed how fast this mighty heater would bring it up to my set temperature of 145° – and it took a very reasonable 21 minutes. Of course, it then proceeds to diligently maintain my cuppa joe at my set temperature. Whenever I forget about it, it automatically shuts down after 2 hours of inaction, just like it’s supposed to – apparently bored with just sitting there heating away.
This is truly a wonderful device, and someone took a lot of care in its stylish design. I also think with its handsome form and the particular well-chosen shade of beige, it suits my midcentury-modern/boho decor nicely. By the way, the company’s photos on their product page were color accurate. My photos are less color accurate so go by the company’s.
I haven’t tried other ceramic mugs yet because I like this one and it comes with its own lid. They tell you it’s easier to keep a drink hot when the lid is on. I noticed it has no problem with a lid on and in fact varied upwards a bit. The literature I think said by 2 degrees, but I saw it go up to 150° at one point and then come back down. I don’t care; I’m not expecting sous vide precision on this one. And maybe I had my cup too close to the sensor in front. When I moved the cup back into its magic circle imprint in the middle, it seemed to vary up to 148° and back down to 145°. Whatever – I got tired of making this one a research project. It’s too nice an item, and it works perfectly for me. It has personality. It’s cool. It’s sweet. It’s handsome. It does the one job it’s meant to do with plenty of precision. I am pleased enough to take the time to offer up a review on it along with a couple of photos looking at the temperature vs time.

This is a really nice mug and makes a very practical gift. One feature I really appreciate is the battery indicator on the mug itself. It is very convenient to see how much charge remains. I also like that it can be used both at home on the charging base or taken on the go. I have been using it at work, and it performs very well.
On the “hot” and “piping” settings, it keeps coffee at a genuinely hot temperature for hours. For example, I made coffee around 9:00 a.m. and was still able to drink it hot around noon. Keep in mind that higher temperature settings will drain the battery more quickly, but this can easily be managed by placing the mug back on the charging base when possible.

The KEPWAM 16oz Smart Heated Coffee Mug does a great job of keeping a hot cup of coffee at your desired heat level for several hours. With three temperature settings to choose from (warm – 113°F, hot – 131°F, and piping – 149°F), one is bound to be “just right” for you (not too hot, not too cool)!
The cup itself is very attractive and there are several color options available. Again, you should be able to find a color that is “just right” for your taste.
I have found the battery life ample to get me through my morning routine, with the cup maintaining the mid-level temperature for about 4 hours on a full charge.
There is also an option to keep the cup on the charger plate while in use, which will keep the charge all day long. Of course, that defeats the “portability” benefit of a self-powered heated cup. I have been using a warming plate for years, but have had to sacrifice the ability to take my coffee with me to another room and keep it hot. So, whether you use the portability feature or fixed charger plate option, one is bound to be “just right” for you!
They do list the “capacity” as 16 oz. While this is, technically, a true statement, 16oz fills the cup to the very tip-top of lip (see photo). Of course, a cup this full cannot be moved without spillage, so the “usable” capacity is more in the 14 oz. range. Also, they similarly list the capacity as 14 oz with the lid attached. Again, this is an overflow level. The “usable” capacity with the lid is more like 13 oz. (see photo).
Other key things to note: the cup cannot be put into a microwave oven, nor can it go into the dishwasher (hand wash only, I wouldn’t recommend submerging, although a quick dip in soapy water and a gentle rinse should be OK).
Even though it comes with a lid for travel, note that this cup most likely will not fit into a car’s standard cup holder. The handle is such that the cup cannot nestle down inside the cup holder. But for moving from room to room, the lid can be a handy plus for this cup.
Overall, this is a great cup that does keep a beverage at a good drinking temperature for several hours.

Great mug for a car commute, not that heavy as other competitors and keep my coffee hot enough for a perfect drinkable temperature. I keep it on “hot” not “steaming” right from the moment I made my coffee and it keep perfectly while I’m driving for about an hour to the office and then still hot in the office to finish my drink, where I put it on a charger pad. I’ve updated to 4hr shutoff delay through the app, and just keep it on all the time.
I do like mug’s simple while quite stylish design, reasonable weight, and simplicity of one-button control, the rest is through the app and AI-Heat mode, that works perfectly on my iPhone.
The lid is good and sturdy, please check for the rubber ring not to overturn as it might cause leakage if not aligned evenly as it should (as in any other mugs/lids though). The lid’s flip valve is good and it does lock in the open position – but requires a bit of a trick to not to press on the far part but instead press on its middle part, and it magically locks in place 🙂
Overall a good product, used it for a few months already and hope it does last, I tried other vendors and they didn’t last longer than 3-4 months. This one looks sturdy enough to make it through a year, hopefully!

EDITED TO SAY: DO NOT BUY. Suddenly stopped charging. It’s now an expensive paperweight.
First impression review: So far, I love it. It did take a little bit of a learning curve to figure out the controls. I took away a star for the flimsy cover, the part that closes shut came off as it was just a flimsy plastic. Keeps my coffee warm and the charger takes very little space on my desk.
